Our Pastor

     John Hassell was born on March 24, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia to the Late Pastor Samuel Hassell former pastor of the Calvary Church of God in Christ, and the late Evangelist Margaret Virginia McCoy Hassell. 

     Pastor Hassell attended Norfolk public schools and is a graduate of Lake Taylor High School and attended College of the Albemarle. He is married to Cheryl Denise Smith-Hassell: from this union they have two lovely daughters, Shanna who is married to Marcus Futrell (they have two daughters Lauryn and Eva), and Toree who is married to Joe L. Harmon III (they have two daughters, Mary Leigh and Madeline). 

     Pastor Hassell rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of New Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he served as a Trustee, after which he serve as a deacon. He was called by God to preach in 1989, yet he did not preach his initial message until 1994 under Pastor Rev. Robert L. Happer. 

     In 1998, Willow Grove Baptist Church in Chesapeake, called John Hassell to serve as the pastor of where he served faithfully from November 1998 to March 2010.

In 2002 to 2004, Pastor Hassell attend Angelos Bible College and Seminary for Theological studies, World Religions and Christian Education. He loves people, preaching, and teaching the Word of God. 

     In October 2017 New Pleasant Valley Baptist Church obeyed the will of God and received John M. Hassell as their Pastor.
